Moyra Willis (nee Blow) Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful Moyra, in her 96th year. Moyra died peacefully, after a brief illness, at Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga, with her family by her side. Predeceased by her darling husband of 60 years, Patrick Willis. Loving mother to daughter, Claire (David) and son, Simon. Cherished grandmother (Nan, Nanoot, Nonny) to Emily (Michael), Laura (Michael), Crystal (Jorge) and Stewart (Sylvonna). Loving aunt to Susan (Robin) and loving great-aunt to Jeremy (Jenn), Natalie (Jonathon) and their families. Moyra is predeceased by her parents, Francis and Hilda Blow (nee O’Dell), sister, Jean Facer (Albert) (Tom) and sister, Faith Marek (Emil) (Darryl). She is survived by many saddened in-laws, nieces, nephews, and their families.
Moyra was born in St. Albans, England, and immigrated to Canada in 1961 with Pat and their two small children. Her entrepreneurial spirit led to a longtime, successful career as owner of Home Personnel, a domestic agency in St. Catharines. Throughout her life and into retirement, Moyra’s creativity emerged passionately in many different hobbies and interests, including learning the guitar (at age 50), fabric painting, flower drying, tie-dying, watercolour, quilt making, dress making and embroidery. She was talented in everything she tried her hand at but was particularly known for her gardening and knitting skills. Moyra’s English country gardens were breathtaking, and her knitting projects are legendary. Moyra swaddled everyone she knew in warm sweaters, slippers, socks and blankets, and every stitch was a stitch of love. Moyra was a longtime member of her Stitch and knitting group with her best friends Lori, Lorraine, Eve (late) and Betty (late). A glass of sherry was mandatory at all meetings. Above all, Moyra rejoiced in being the best wife, mother, grandmother and friend that she could be. And she absolutely nailed it.
