Michael (Mike) John James Obituary
Peacefully with his wife by his side, at the Carpenter Hospice, Burlington, on Friday, October 11, 2024, at the age of 66. Loving husband of Collette (nee Badgery) for over 36 years. Cherished father of Kristian and Bryce. Dear brother of Steve (Shannon), Trina McCormack (Paul), and Laura Bennett (Earl).
Predeceased by his parents Melville and Jean James and survived by his parents-in-law David and Daphne Badgery. Will be remembered fondly by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mike was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia but settled in Burlington, Ontario. Mike was in the Canadian Navy for over 11 years working as a Canadian Naval Clearance Diver. He was awarded a Bravo Zulu from the Admiral for the recovery work he did on the Canadian Air Force crash of one of their Snowbird Aircraft in 1989.
Mike was hired by the Burlington Fire Department in 1993 where he stayed for over 26 years.
He worked as a firefighter for seven years and was awarded the Fire Fighter Medal for Bravery. Mike eventually was promoted to Training Officer of the Burlington Fire Department, where he trained many volunteer and career firefighters.
Mike was an avid Hamilton Tiger Cats’ fan and had season tickets for many years. “Oskee Wee Wee.”
Mike was a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous and had 5714 days of sobriety.
His family would like to thank everyone that came to visit him during the six weeks he was at Carpenter Hospice. It meant the world to Mike.
Lastly his family would especially like to thank all the nurses, PSW’s and the wonderful staff at Carpenter Hospice for all the support and care that they gave Mike during his final weeks.
Private cremation has taken place. If desired, a donation in memory of Mike to the Carpenter Hospice would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
