Georgina May Mistele (nee Rouse) Obituary
With heavy hearts we announce that Georgina (Jean) Mistele passed away early Tuesday November 5 at home in her 102nd year.
She was born June 23, 1923 in Clinton, Ontario, the eldest daughter of Percival Hearn and Bernice Rouse Hearn. In 1941 she joined one of the first teams of Farmerettes picking fruit in the Niagara region to support the war effort. She later studied nursing at Toronto Western Hospital and then used her nursing skills to travel all over western Canada with her lifelong friend Maxine. She left nursing to marry Gerald David Mistele in 1951, eventually settling in Burlington. After his passing in 1970 she returned to nursing and worked at Joseph Brant hospital until her retirement in 1985.
She is survived by her daughters Elizabeth (Phil) and Margaret, her grandchildren Rebecca, Gerald and Lois (Jordan) and her great grandchildren Lily and Tyler. Jean’s family was very important to her and she was always eager to be part of the landmarks in their lives.
Jean was a dedicated member of Appleby United Church for over 60 years and an avid bridge player. She loved to travel; going to China just after it opened up and cruising down the Volga. She once signed up for a tour in Europe because when she first called to enquire about it there was only one spot left – “clearly a sign that she was meant to go on it”. In her later years she took pleasure getting away to a cottage in Haliburton.
We are grateful for the support of the PSWs for their care and support and we particularly wish to thank the Halton Community Paramedic program for the support that allowed her to continue living at home.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Appleby United Church (e-transfer to applebyoffice1@gmail.com), the Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
There will be a Memorial Service on Wednesday, November 13th starting at 1PM at Appleby United Church, 4407 Spruce Avenue, Burlington with a reception to follow. Cremation has taken place and a private interment will be held later at Hamilton Cemetery.
Please sign the Tribute Wall.
