Fani Grcar Obituary
Fani Grcar passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at Stedman Hospice in Brantford, on Saturday, April 27, 2024, in her 82nd year. She was the beloved wife of Anton for 60 remarkable years. Fani was a devoted mother to her children: Elvis (Mary), Belinda and Christine (John). To her, family was everything, and she embraced her children’s spouses as her own. She cherished her role as grandmother to Daniel, Celena and Sonja (the children of Elvis and Mary), Justin (Belinda’s son), and Johnny, Nicholas, and Christian (the children of Christine and John). Fani’s love knew no bounds, extending not only to her biological family but also to those she welcomed into her heart.
Born on June 22, 1941, in Xanthogeia, Greece, Fani’s entrepreneurial spirit led her to establish and run a convenience store, ice cream parlour and diner in the Hamlet of Lynden, where she served her community with warmth and dedication. Her green thumb and passion for gardening were evident in the beauty she cultivated in every outdoor space she touched. Fani delighted in preparing meals with love that were not only delicious but also brought joy to all who gathered around her table.
Fani’s memory will forever be treasured by her sister, Betty, her brother, Peter, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, John Tsoumagas and Evelyn (nee Thomas), and her brother, Bill.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at ST. DEMETRIOS GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH, 22 Head St., Hamilton, on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, from 10 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Following the service, interment will take place at Garden Lane Cemetery, with a reception to follow at KITCHING STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME, 146 Mill St. N., Waterdown.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Fani may be made to the Stedman Hospice, Brantford, or the Alzheimer’s Society, as expressions of sympathy that would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
