Edelgard “Edie” Clauss (née Bosies) Obituary
Edelgard (“Edie”) Elisabeth Lydia Clauss (née Bosies), 92, of Flamborough Ontario, died peacefully on
December 24, 2023 at her home with her beloved daughter, Janet, by her side. Christmas Eve was
always a special day to Edie, and she hosted her family and friends at her hearth for many, many years;
it is fitting that she should pass on a day filled with so many wonderful memories.
Edie was born on February 6, 1931, to Otto Friedrich Bosies and Lydia (“Lilly”) Bosies in Wiesenhausen,
Germany. Edie married Albrecht (“Albert”) Clauss on March 25, 1954 and they immigrated to Canada in
July 1954. They had two children, Janet and Norman.
Edie had many roles over the course of her long life including nurse, home and school advocate, and
business owner. She was an avid traveler and she enjoyed many wonderful trips with both her husband
and, subsequent to his passing, various seniors travel groups, making many new friends along the way.
She will be remembered for her quick wit and sharp humour, her hostessing, and her ability to make
long-lasting and meaningful connections with all she encountered. Her social circle was wide and she
was loved by many.
Predeceased by her husband Albert, son Norman, and her sister Brunhild, Edie (“Omi”) is survived by her
daughter Janet (John); grandchildren Jenna (Scott) and Michael (Alannah); great-grandchildren Sophia,
William, Emersyn, and Blaire; and her family in Germany.
A special thank you to Dr. Williams for his many years of care, the St. Joseph’s Home Care nurses, and
the many palliative personal support workers who assisted Edie over these last few months.
Cremation has taken place. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, December 30, 2023 from 1 – 3
p.m. at KITCHING, STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME, 146 Mill St. N., Waterdown, ON. In lieu of
flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, a charity which Edie was a long-
