Dianne Joan Vickers Obituary
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Dianne Vickers on October 23, 2024 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Hamilton. Dianne was predeceased by her parents H. David Smith and Lorna Smith (nee Gray), and by her older brother David who died in infancy. She is survived by her brother, Garry Smith, nieces Emily Smith and Laura Barton (Corey), and grand-nephews Cole and Rowan. She is also survived by many others who were significant in her life – family, friends and neighbours who she cared about deeply.
Dianne was born in Hamilton and had a long career as a teacher with the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board where she taught English and Family Studies, among other subjects. She was an expert sewer, a talented painter and an extraordinary baker. If you were lucky enough to be the recipient of one of Dianne’s cakes, you were truly fortunate. She was also an avid reader and volunteered with her local library for many years.
Dianne loved to travel, and she had the t-shirt collection to prove it. She was blessed to have good friends with whom she traveled the world and shared many great adventures.
Dianne will be remembered for her kindness and generosity, and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Her family is extremely grateful to the many individuals and organizations who assisted Dianne during her illness. A special thank you to Dr. Solomon and the staff at St. Peter’s Hospital who cared for Dianne in her final months and to the wonderful friends who lifted her spirits with their cards, phone calls and visits.
According to Dianne’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Friends are invited to share their memories and pay their respects on Friday, November 8, 2024 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at KITCHING, STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME, 146 Mill St N., Waterdown.
If desired, donations in memory of Dianne may be made to the Cancer Assistance Program of Hamilton or to the charity of your choice.
