Christine “Chrissy” Anne Torry
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Christine Torry on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at the age of 69, surrounded by her loved ones at Juravinski Hospital, Hamilton following a courageous battle with leukaemia.
Loving wife and partner of over 32 years to Stan Fassaert, “Chrissy” was predeceased by her beloved elder brother John Torry, her mother Julie (“Jules”) Torry, and her father Art Torry. She is survived by her sister-in-law Janet Torry. She was the wonderful aunt (and “Perfect Mother”) to Jennifer (Liam Stockdale) and Jessie (Jeff Salway), and a cherished “GAC” (Great Aunt Chris) to Jennifer and Liam’s daughter Audrey.
Despite the health challenges of her final few years, Christine lived a full and vibrant life, contributing her considerable talents and vivacious personality to a wide variety of causes and initiatives. A highly accomplished family law attorney, she was a relentless advocate for children throughout her career. She also generously volunteered her time to numerous charitable organizations, including serving as Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Wellwood cancer support organization and in a variety of senior roles with Big Brothers and Big Sisters.
She had a deep love of travel, and saw a great deal of the world over the years. She was always a good sport on numerous motorcycle trips with Stan and herself enjoyed driving her little convertible sportscars (the Miata being her model of choice). Other joys included good food, good wine, and a good book, all of which she was keen to share with friends and family.
Those who knew her will never forget how her loudly infectious laugh would fill a room, and she was a fierce friend to the many people she welcomed into her family and social circles – all of whom would describe her as just being a lot of fun in every way. Her loss leaves a void that will be impossible to fill in a great many lives.
A private cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, to be subsequently shared with family and friends.
