Peter P Dirks October 15, 1918- December 18, 2024
A man of few words left this world quietly in his 107th year. Pete was born in Nikolaipol, Ukraine. Escaping the war in 1924, the family fled to Mexico then came to Canada in 1926. He now sleeps in heavenly peace with his wife Marie (2018) and daughter Susan Kaye (2019). Parents, Peter H and Katarina, sisters; Maria (1924), Katarina (1924), Erna (1989) and brother Henry (2024). Continuing Peter’s legacy are Peter Jr. (Linda), son-in-law Brian, grandchildren Jason (Danika), Jeremy, Jonathan, Kate (Cody) Palmer-Almond, and Emma (Travis). His 8 great-grandchildren have fond memories of Sunday family nights at 6 Goldsmith and having Opa draw a bird on their hand. As a builder, Peter hired many newcomers to Canada. He devoted his life to the Lord, serving as a Sunday School teacher and deacon at NUM. As a tenant at Tabor Manor, Peter attended bible studies and chapel.
We cannot say enough about the amazing PSWs on Spruce Lane who always went the extra mile. Peter moved into LTC in August. Thank you to all the staff who helped walk Opa home.
The family will greet their guests at the church Peter built, Niagara United Mennonite Church 1775 Niagara Stone Rd on Monday December 23rd. A visitation reception will begin at 9 am in the gym. The funeral service begins at 10:30 am in the sanctuary with interment following the service (Niagara Lakeshore Cemetery). Donations to MCC or Radiant Care Tabor Manor.
