In Celebration of
Wendy Edgett
November 18, 1931 –
December 27, 2024
It is with great sadness to announce the passing of our beloved mum, Wendy Adeline Edgett (nee Hitch) on December 27, 2024 at the age of 93.
Born in Middle England, she was the youngest daughter to Edward and Hilda Hitch. She attended Howell’s school in Northern Wales, followed by the Liverpool School of Occupational Therapy. In 1954, she embarked on a life-changing journey, sailing across the Atlantic on the S.S. Saxonia, to begin her career as an O.T. at the Mayo Clinic. During this voyage, Wendy met the love of her life, Gordon – a true shipboard romance! The two were married for 50 years before Gordon’s passing in 2007.
A loving mother to Jonathan, Philippa and Amelia and a dear mother-in-law to John Damiani and Lisa Snyder. Wendy’s pride and joy were her grandchildren Jessica (George), Matthew, Rebecca (James), Jacob (Emma) and Emeline and her great grandchildren, Theo, Christian and Baby Boy Rutledge. She will be missed by her furry companion Fergus.
Wendy was a loving sister to George, John and Barbara (all predeceased) and a sister-in-law to Alan and Donna (predeceased); Loving Aunt to David (Liverpool), Emily and Bryan (Brisbane), Dianne and John (Kingston), Craig and Diana (Kingston)
The family would like to extend their thanks to the doctors and nurses who cared for her during her cancer journey at William Osler, Runnymede and Dorothy Ley Hospice . A special thank you to Dr. Bahl whose kindness and compassion meant so much to Wendy and her family.
The unwavering support from Wendy’s dear friends as well as her neighbours, was always a blessing, and especially during this difficult time.
Wendy was a passionate traveler to faraway lands, an avid gardener, and a lifelong learner, enrolling in classes, singing in a choir and attending Probus meetings throughout her years. Wendy lived a full and remarkable life, one to be celebrated and cherished by all who knew her.
