In Loving Memory of Susan Hudson
Susan Hudson, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, left us peacefully on June 26, 2024, at the age of 91.
Susie Craven was born on December 9, 1932, in Keighley, Yorkshire, England, to Carey William Craven and Doris (Shakleton) Craven. She grew up as the youngest of four in a close-knit family with her sisters Molly, Katherine and brother Donald. After graduating, Sue trained as a telephone operator and was employed at the Manx Telephone Exchange in the Isle of Man. Sue then went to work at the Manx Telegraph, the local newspaper office, where she first met John Hudson. After a 4-year courtship, they married in September 1954 and moved to Canada the very next day.
Upon immigrating to Canada, Sue worked at Bell Canada before starting their family. She worked part-time providing administrative support for Government offices and enjoyed the flexibility it gave her. She also enjoyed tutoring at the local school and supporting extra curricular activities.
In 1995 John and Sue moved to Campbellford Ontario, which offered them more of a country lifestyle. They enjoy their botanical standard gardens in the summer, and traveling the world in the winter months, visiting family in Australia, Florida and Canada’s Atlantic provinces. Sue also enjoyed her stained-glass hobby, the ladies bowling league, and keeping active with bike rides and walking around their island paradise. She was truly in her element when the family gathered, and the grandchildren filled their home with activity, laughter and love.
Sue was a devoted wife to her late husband, John, with whom she shared 60 wonderful years of marriage until his passing in 2015. Sue and John were predeceased by their daughter, Shelly, whose memory they cherished deeply.
Sue is survived by her children, Tracy (Joe), Lee (Martyn), Linda (Don), Jackie (Ben) and her ten grandchildren, Paul, Christopher, Peter, Kyla, Oliver, Mitchel, Victoria, Olivia, Benjamin and Alexander and her great grandchildren, Holly, Katerina, Ellie and Callen. She relished the moments spent with her children and grandchildren, creating lasting memories with each of them, that will be valued forever.
Her family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Harmony Hills Care Community for their compassionate care during Sue’s final years. Your support for us, the family, and your dedication to our mother’s care and comfort has been greatly appreciated.
A celebration of Sue’s life will be held at 1253 Woodland Ave. Mississauga, on Sunday, July 7, 2024, at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a Children’s Charity of your choice (outside of Canada preferably), in Sue’s honor.
Sue’s kindness, warmth, and family devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
