In loving memory of Maria Srokowski (nee Karp)
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share the news of Maria’s passing on December 2, 2024 at the age of 74 after a long and very difficult battle with cancer with her loving and devoted daughter, Elizabeth at her side. Maria faced her illness with incredible courage and an unbreakable spirit, inspiring all who knew her.
Born on December 18, 19 49, in the city of Rzeszow, Poland, Maria was a cherished sister to her twin brother Adam and older brothers Kazek, Olek, and Jerzyk.
Maria’s journey began as a microbiologist in Poland’s dairy industry and after getting married, she welcomed two daughters, Cathy and Elizabeth. In 1983, she made the bold decision to move to Canada, seeking a brighter future for her family amid Poland’s Solidarity movement. Despite the immense challenges of a new country and language, Maria’s determination and love for her daughters were unwavering. She worked tirelessly to provide for them, making countless sacrifices along the way.
Maria was an avid baker, always having a fresh baked good to share over tea, as well as an avid gardener who would often be found out on her berm at her Niagara house, out past dusk tending to her flowers.
Maria’s legacy lives on in her daughters, Elizabeth (son in law Jeffrey) and Cathy, and her treasured 5 grandchildren, Jasper, Jonah, Evelyn, Isabel, and Liam. As a beloved Babi and Baba, she showered her grandchildren with endless love and delicious cookies and perogies.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the compassionate team at the Village of Humber Heights, who provided care and support during Maria’s final days.
Maria has been cremated, and we will gather to celebrate her life at G.H. Hogle Funeral Chapel, 63 Mimico Avenue, Toronto, on Sunday, December 8th, 2024 at 2pm .
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider making a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society in memory of Maria.
Maria, your love, strength, and beautiful spirit will forever live on in our hearts. You will always be remembered by your contagious smile and courteous ways with others.
