Maria Dolinar Obituary
Our beloved mother, Maria, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, in Toronto.
Maria was born in Slovenia on September 19,1929 where she spent a happy childhood in the village of Vrbje. Following WWII and the rise of communism, Maria fled her homeland in 1949, made her way to Canada, settled in Toronto, and became part of the growing Slovenian community. Here she met her husband, Anton, and together they happily raised their six children. Maria drew strength from her devout faith, community and her family. She was a committed parishioner and longstanding member of the Catholic Women’s League.
Maria is predeceased by her loving husband Anton, her son Tony, grandson Paul, and her brother Joži (Slovenia). She was a devoted mother to Rosemarie (Frank), Emma (Andrew), John (Dora), Betty (Richard) and Cathy (Bart); a cherished Staramama to Thomas (Ashley), Maria (Alex), Claire (Alex), Owen (Louise), Ellen (Vivek), Alex, and Jessica (Petr), Gregory (Nicole), Philip (Sahi), Robert (Laura), Eric, Steven, Karen, Arthur; and a proud great-grandmother to her ten great-grandchildren. She will be lovingly remembered by her sister Meda, extended family members, neighbours, friends in Slovenia, United States, and Toronto.
Maria smiled easily, finding joy in family gatherings, listening to classical music, tending to her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens, and traveling with family to near and distant destinations. Being an avid reader, she led us by example into a world of imagination and varied perspectives.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 9th from 9:30 to 11:00 am in Our Lady of the Miraculous
Medal Catholic Church (739 Browns Line). The Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 am.
Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, 8361 Yonge Street, Thornhill.
The family would like to thank Maria’s homecare providers and the staff at the Palliative Care Unit of St. Joseph’s Health Centre for their kind and compassionate care during her final months of life. Maria was deeply grateful for their assistance and love.
