It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife and mother, Margaret McCallum, 92, of Toronto, ON, on Sunday, November 19th at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, surrounded by her family.
Margaret was born on January 26, 1931 to John and May Irwin in Bellshill, Scotland, and was the eldest of 6 children. She grew up in Dunoon, Scotland and in 1949 took her first job working in an Engineers’ office where she met her husband-to-be, Donald. They married in 1953, and with adventurous spirits, left Scotland and lived around the world from South America to West Africa, to the Caribbean and North America, and on to the Middle East. During this time they had 3 children, Angela, Joy and Jennifer.
Margaret was a wonderful homemaker, setting up homes in all these countries and making life comfortable and secure for the family she devoted herself to. She had an ability to adapt anywhere and always made the most of whatever circumstances she found herself in. She learned to sew, making lovely dresses for herself and her daughters, took painting classes and was a talented artist; and, she loved to dance, cook and entertain her family and friends. When she first arrived in Canada, Margaret gave of her time to the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital as a volunteer.
Margaret was a loving wife and mother, and an amazing role model who could always be counted on when needed. She was loved beyond measure by her family, admired by everyone who knew her, and will be deeply missed. She is survived by her husband, Donald; her daughters, Angela, (pre-deceased by her daughter, Joy), and Jennifer; son-in-law, Nick Henry; grandchildren, Timothy, Kate and Jonathan; and, great grandchildren, Charlie, Harriet, Tommy and Jemima.
A private, family only service and cremation was held on November 22, 2023.
