Keith Ellison Obituary
After a brave and difficult battle with cancer, Keith Ellison passed away, surrounded by his family, at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Toronto at the age of 84.
He enjoyed 60 beautiful years with his loving wife, Anne. He was a wonderful father to Andrea (Dugald) and Heather (Dan) and a cherished grandfather to Ben, Jack, Hannah, Michael and Sam. He will be remembered by his sister, Barbara Crossley, and his niece, Susan Crossley Reisberry. Pre-deceased by his brother-in-law, Doug Madill, he will be greatly missed by his sister-in-law, Jean, and his nephew, Darryl.
Keith was a chemistry teacher with the Toronto District School Board for 33 years. He was an incredible teacher who possessed the rare combination of fun and learning and had an impact on both his students and peers alike. He was a founding member of the Beaver Valley Ski Club in 1967, and after retirement, he enjoyed several years as a ski instructor and head of the children’s ski program. A travel enthusiast, Keith and his wife explored the world, enjoying meeting new people, learning about different cultures and their histories, and was always in awe of the beauty of nature and its wildlife. Keith also dedicated much of his time as a volunteer. He was politically involved, driving seniors to vote, working on election campaigns, and was a passionate environmentalist. An avid storyteller, he relished telling his many stories and passed his considerable gift of gab onto his children and grandchildren. He was known for his spicy sense of humour and will be forever remembered for his twinkling blue eyes, his big smile, and his mane of silver fox hair. He was a big presence that will leave a big hole.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled for a later date.
Donations in memory of Keith to the Bruce Trail Conservancy, the Owl Foundation, or the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives would be appreciated by the family.
