José Paulo Antunes Dos Santos, September 11, 1941 – December 6, 2023
Loving husband of Maria Constança Santos and adored father of Nilia Dos Santos (Mark Laronde) and Jason Dos Santos (Ellen Chang). Amazing grandfather to Noah Palhinha, Gavin Palhinha, Benjamin Dos Santos and Charlotte Dos Santos. José’s greatest joys were his grandchildren, they were the light of his life, and he was a very involved Avô to them. He bragged about them incessantly. He was so proud of them and his wallet was full of their photos. He is irreplaceable.
José was born in Ferrel, Portugal, a small town which he travelled to annually. His Portuguese roots were strong and he loved it the most when his children and grandchildren would join him there at the family home he built and lived in as a newlywed in the 1960s. After a two year military tour in Angola he moved to France and ultimately to Canada in 1968. He gratefully put down firm roots in Toronto, and would not consider living anywhere else. One of his favourite passions while driving his children around was to point out buildings that he had helped build. He left his mark in so many ways.
José was generous, funny, loyal to a fault and made friends everywhere he went. He was happiest among a large group of people eating and drinking, and enjoying themselves. He was the life of every party and was always in good humour. He leaves a hole impossible to fill. We will miss him at every birthday, holiday, and family get togethers. Life will never be the same for us.
