With a heavy heart, love and profound gratitude, the family of Gerard Robert Sicotte announces his passing on December 31, 2023, at the Scarborough Grace Hospital, at the age of 86.
Gerry is survived by Nicole, his daughter, and his son-in-law, Mike Blais. He was pre-deceased by his wife of 62 years, Marie Blais, his daughter Carole Sicotte-Blais, his parents Alphonse and Elzire (Gatien) Sicotte, and his sister Henriette. Gerry will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Dad was born in Sudbury. He worked at Inco mines for a few years then moved his family to Hanmer, Ontario when he took over the family business, “Sunshine Produce”, packing apples for the local grocery stores. In 1986, Mom and Dad moved to Toronto to be closer to their two daughters. Dad then began working for Wardrobe Transport as a truck driver. Dad was an innovative person, who designed and built a warehouse where he ran his produce business. He also built a camper.
As a teenager, Dad loved to play hockey. As an adult, he loved winter sports such as snowmobiling, skating and cross-country skiing. During the summer he enjoyed camping, swimming and water skiing and also loved watching sports. His favourite sport teams were the Blue Jays (baseball), the Kansas City Chiefs (football), the Raptors and the Golden State Warriors (basketball).
Dad loved to sit in the backyard where he would interact with the neighbours and local wildlife. He loved cats and we adopted five cats that live in the townhouse complex. He always made sure that they were given treats and lots of loving attention.
I would like to thank the staff of Scarborough Grace and Markham Stouffville hospitals, and the nurses that cared for Dad from Paramed. I would also like to thank Dr. Eliza Lair, Dad’s family doctor, for the special care she gave him.
