The Yorke family announces with deep sorrow the passing of our anchor, Thomas Yorke, on Monday, September 2, 2024. Surrounded by his loving family, Tom passed peacefully at Timmins and District Hospital at the age of 79.
He will be remembered by his wife of 56 years Dorothy, his brother John (Linda) in Scotland, his daughter Christina Goldstone (Daryl), his son Michael (Jenny Lynne and family), his grandchildren Hailey and Jacob Goldstone, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins from near and far, and especially his best buddy Nacho.
Tom will be reunited with his mother Christina, in-laws Robert and Charlotte Koosees, his first-born baby girl and his other four-legged buddy Chico.
Thomas Foster Yorke, also known as Tom, Tommy and Scotty…but known by very many as friend. Born March 11, 1945 in Scotland, to lead a life full of kindness, love, friendships and respect. Tom moved to Canada in 1965 and was soon stationed in Moose Factory with Austin Airways. While in Moose, he met the love he was destined to grow old with and began building the family he dreamed of with Dorothy (Koosees) in Timmins in 1972.
Aside from his sharp collection of, Tom was a man of many hats. He held many jobs from many fields over the years, but his passion laid in his creative hobbies. Tom was given the gift of the arts and displayed it through story writing, painting, photography, crafting, poetics and customizing flair. While not creating, Tom loved the outdoors and all it had to offer; camping with a book in hand, hiking, fishing, canoeing and borrowing from nature for inspiration.
Tom was a simple man and lead a simple life, and he did it well. Always eager to meet others’ needs and pleasing those around him, he was not a selfish person.
He loved people and socializing, which led to his inclusion in groups such as Kinsmen Club, K-40, Lord’s Kitchen and other giving organizations. This is also why he enjoyed his career as cagetender until his retirement in 2000.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 7 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at LESSARD Funeral and Cremation Centre. In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrance donations to Timmins and District Humane Society and or The Kidney Foundation of Canada.
