Obituary for
Rev. Paul Douglass
With grateful hearts, because of the blessed Hope that we have in Jesus, we celebrate the life of Paul Douglass who is gone to be with the greatest Fisherman of all.
Beloved husband of Sharron, father to Debbie and Tony, grandfather to Sarah and Jessica, and great-grandfather to Cade, Brooks, Reeves, Hannah and Emily. However, his kind and compassionate heart, made him a father figure to many.
Paul was born in 1941 in Brethour Township but raised in New Liskeard, where he attended New Liskeard Secondary School and met his childhood sweetheart, Sharon, whom he later married. Following graduation, he attended business college in North Bay and began his career at Stelco in Hamilton. However, he felt led to return to New Liskeard where he served as a dispatcher for the OPP and then answered the call to ministry.
For nearly fifty years, he dedicated his life to ministry, serving as a youth leader in Haileybury and pastor in Brethour. He oversaw the construction of two churches: Maranatha at the 9 mile corner in New Liskeard and Evangel Tabernacle in Matheson. In April of 2000, he started pastoring the Timmins Pentecostal Church, during which time he completed his Doctorate degree at the age of 69. After 22 years of service his time pastoring came to an end in October of 2022.
Paul’s life was a testament to his unwavering faith, unconditional love, and unrelenting optimism. Even the Leafs’ 50-plus-year Stanley Cup drought and the one that got away couldn’t dampen his spirits.
As a devoted pastor, Paul shepherded his flock with kindness, wisdom, and humor. His sermons were inspiring often weaving together biblical lessons, family anecdotes, fishing tales, and sports analogies.
Outside of his ministry, Paul was an avid fisherman and hunter. He found Peace and Joy in the great outdoors, often sharing these passions with family and friends. Whether casting a line or tracking game, he cherished the time spent in nature, where he felt closes to God.
Pastor Douglass’ impact will be felt for generations to come. His faith and love for his family will continue to inspire all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of service, devotion and a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures, like all things pastry.
