The family announces with heavy hearts the peaceful passing of Ray St. Denis at Timmins and District Hospital on Tuesday October 8, 2024, at the age of 71.
He was the beloved husband of Laurie St. Denis who brought love and new life to him these past few years. Ray was the loving father to Michelle Lafond (Mitch) and Melissa St. Denis (Mark). Dearly missed by his wife’s children Audrey Guindon (Steven) and Michael Dredhart (Brianna). Cherished grandfather to Cassidy St. Denis (Eric) Corey Lafond, Kiya Pilon and Jada Pilon, and great-grandfather to Ryder and Paisley Aubin, and step grandfather to Sienna, Averie, Lillian, Levi and Ash-Lynn, all of whom were deeply loved by him. He will also be dearly missed by Rolly Pilon whom he considered part of his family.
Ray mourned the loss of his loving wife Marilyn St. Denis, whom he cherished throughout their 39 years of marriage. He was a dear brother to the late Lee Godin (Rheal), Neil St. Denis (late Elizabeth), late Debbie Demers (Jim), and Linda Koch (Ralph). He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends who will mourn his passing. Ray was predeceased by his parents, Marjorie and Lloyd St. Denis.
Ray lived life with a spirit of generosity and strength, often putting the needs of others before his own. If you were to ask Ray what was important to him in life, he would have said his family and work. It wasn’t until later in life that Ray understood the importance of friendship as this was the foundation to his healing after the loss of his wife in 2013. You could often see Ray sitting on the back of his truck at Tim Hortons every morning surrounded by his new found friends who will miss him deeply. Ray worked for 47 years at Kidd Creek Mine where he was well known for his unwavering and strong work ethic. His stubborn nature drove him to face challenges head on earning the respect of colleagues and friends alike. Ray believed that hard work was not just a job but a way of life instilling the same values in his children. Known for his sense of humour, and endless supply of stories of his rebellious childhood, his legacy of kindness and courage will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to know him.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the nurses of the palliative care floor at Timmins and District Hospital. Your patience, and grace in managing Ray’s unique brand of wit and stubbornness was nothing short of miraculous.
A celebration of Ray’s life will be held on Saturday October 12, 2024, from 1:00-3:00p.m. in the Lessard Reception Hall, across the street from the Lessard Funeral and Cremation Centre. Family, friends, and all who loved Ray are welcome to join us in honouring his memory. We will share some stories at 2:00pm. In lieu of donations, an act of kindness in his memory would be greatly appreciated.
