The family announces the peaceful passing of Madeleine (Magdalena) Lefort on Friday November 24th at the age of 97 at LaSalle Retirement Residence in Timmins.
Beloved wife of the late Raymond Lefort (1989). Loving mother of Denis, Donald (Ann) and Fred (Carmen). She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Brenda Lefort, David Lefort, Jessica Robinson (Scott), James Lefort, Renée Lefort-Razon (Mark) and Sabrina Sullivan (Colin), and by her ten great-grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her parents Henry and Elizabeth Remmert of Timmins as well as her sister Anne Pitrie and her brother John Remmert. She is survived by her sister Mary Leone and her nieces Laura Leone, Lisa Arsenault (Larry) and nephew Michael Leone (Gretchen).
Magdalena and her family immigrated to Canada from Hungary in 1932 and established Remmert’s Poultry Farm until she married in 1945 and raised three boys. She ran the bingo at the Ukrainian Hall and was an avid bowler. Nanny, as we so affectionately called her, was a real spitfire right to the end. She was well read and was on top of all political controversies.
After her husband’s death she reestablished herself in Hamilton Ontario where she enjoyed the vibrant culture and was comfortable driving anywhere. She was always singing, remembered every little detail of times and places and had also established an amazing garden.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Lasalle Residence for welcoming her with compassionate care during her brief stay.
Respecting her wishes, cremation will take place. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to LESSARD Funeral and Cremation Centre. The family will announce a celebration of life at a later date. Remembrance donations made to the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
