Spanjers, Wilhelmina “Mina” Henrica (November 8, 1928 – March 26, 2024) –
Mina passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, March 26th, 2024, at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, in her 96th year. Born in the Netherlands, Mina was the daughter of the late Wilhelmus Scheepers and Maria Bakx of the Netherlands. She was predeceased by her husband William Spanjers, her infant son Adrian, her son-in-law Ron Mac Kay and several siblings, nieces and nephews in the Netherlands and Canada. She is survived by her children Henry and Marlene (Luyben) Spanjers, Bill and Susan (Dahl) Spanjers, Andy and Barb (Jones) Spanjers, John and Richelle (Epple) Spanjers, Anne and Phil Gagnon, Henrietta and Wouter Van hulle, Tina and Mark Hopper, Pat and Cynthia (Diner) Spanjers.

Loving Oma to her great grandchildren: Kiera, Campbelle, Kherington, Kaia and Connelly Spanjers; Samuel, Jonah and Molly Melanson; Ryden and Caleb Hoffman; Alydia Spanjers; Lauryn, Logan and Aiden Tracey; Andrew and Madeline Karloff; Finley and Niamh Spanjers-Cook; Laila and Theodore Spanjers; Andrew and Zachary Pattison; Makayla Barker; Taiga Teraji; Mina Rose and Kylar Walton; Callum, Archie and Collins MacKay; Leah and Lexi Lavier; Lucas and Hunter Stuyt; Jensen and Samuel Stuyt. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews both here and in the Netherlands and was looked on as a second mother for the children of her sisters who predeceased her here in Canada.
Mina was the much-loved matriarch of the family, and she loved nothing more than spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and seeing them grow and play. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was always smiling unless she was playing cards because that was serious business. She loved being a farmer, and often looked back on her childhood on the family farm in Best, Netherlands (which is now a National Historic site), and her years on their farm in Embro and Dereham Centre. She was an active member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Tillsonburg and a long-time member of the Catholic Women’s League.
Friends and family are welcome to gather with the family at the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes Chapel on Monday, April 1st, 2024. CWL prayers will begin at 4:00pm for those wishing to attend, followed by visitation from 4:30pm to 7:00pm. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024, at 11:00am by Rev. Father Seejo John, followed by internment at Tillsonburg Cemetery. Relatives and friends are also invited to a luncheon at St Mary’s Church Hall, following the internment.
