Paul Joseph Martin, 87, of Tillsonburg passed away on May 19 at Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital surrounded by family.
Paul was born on May 22nd in Hammond, Indiana as the first of nine children to Joseph and Verna Martin (nee Heidgerken). He is survived by his loving wife Marjorie Anne ( Marjie), his children Kevin, Mary Kay (Doug), Barry ( Jackie) , Craig ( Mary) , and Colleen; 8 grandchildren, Andy, Will, Eli, Mira Belle, Caleb, Sara, Natalie, and Sophia, and siblings Rita Comeaux, Kay Lauer, Nancy Crowley, Greg Martin, and Terri Pryer Gibson. Paul was predeceased by his first wife, Jeanne Diamond, and siblings Judy, Mary, and Tom Martin.
In 1954, Paul graduated from Price College in Amarillo, Texas before enlisting in the United States Navy and received an honorable discharge in 1957. In 1962 Paul received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas, followed by an M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Drexel University in Philadelphia, and received his Ph.D in Biomedical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland in 1967.
For nearly 30 years Paul was Associate Chief of Investigative Medicine at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Cleveland. During this period he was a professor of physiology, biophysics and biomedical engineering at Case Western’s schools of Medicine and Engineering
Paul was a loving and devoted father, a dedicated scientist who had a lifetime love of learning, an accomplished musician, and a beautiful dancer. He was an avid reader and great listener. He lived life to the fullest, and will be missed by many.
A Celebration of Life Reception will be held on Saturday August 17 at the Tillsonburg Senior Centre from 1:30 to 4:30.
