Paul D. Sinden
May 22, 1939 – January 18, 2024
His raised brow, his occasional soft words, his funny facial expressions and his loving hand squeezes are what he has left us with.
Paul “Lefty” Sinden, as many friends refer to him, was much more than the person we watched leave us on January 18, 2024. He was a loving husband to Bryden (nee Philp) for 58 years, a devoted father to Drew (Kathy), David (Alana) and Shelagh (Paul) Csanyi and a wonderful poppy to Grayden, Griffin, Kyle, Trent, Bryden, Kenna and Taight.
Mom and Dad, as many of you can attest to, were at every volleyball, ringette, track meet, football, cross country meet, golf tourney, basketball and hockey game their beloved grandkids ever did. Dad may not have always outwardly showed his love but he always went out of his way to be there and support us and never failed to be our rock. We knew his love for us all.
Dad was the 11th born to his parents Audrey and William on May 22, 1939 in Belmont. He was predeceased by his siblings Bill, Betty, Lorraine, Jean, Ron, Reg, Isabelle, Brenda and his business partner Jim. Survived by his sister Irene Livingstone (late Frank), having just celebrated her 90th birthday, she is our last family story teller. Dad is also survived by his only brother-in-law Art Philp (late Shirley) of Port Perry.
Dad spent his school years growing up in Tillsonburg attending Rolph Street Public and Annandale High School. During summer breaks he would join his siblings and paint. It is what we Sindens have been doing since 1947. Despite all the hard work, dad loved many weekends hanging out with his siblings and their kids at the family cottage in Long Point. The small cottage was overflowing with people every weekend and dad’s parents cooked and entertained with a smile on their faces. Paul, Jim and Bill took over the business from their parents and he eventually ran Norfolk Decorators Supply in Simcoe for many years. He retired from the Tillsonburg store and handed the reins to Drew and David but continued to dabble with his love of framing for several years. We can take a little comfort in knowing there is a piece of him hanging on a lot of walls in the area.
In earlier years, dad was active with the Rovers and Boy Scouts and was part of the Tillsonburg contingent that went to the World Jamboree in Sutton, Coldfield England in 1957. It was the highlight of his scouting career. Dad loved to golf and he passed his love of the game to his kids and grandkids. He gave and took a lot of “gimmies” with his buddies Weiner, Dick, Bruce, Ralph, Greg, Tony and Larry. They shared a lot of memories and a lot of drinks. Mom and Dad played a lot together when she could get him away from his buddies. Winters in Sandestin were a special place for them and they golfed and visited with friends and family for years. Dad and I on the Swilcan Bridge at the Old Course, will go down as my best golf day ever.
We would like to thank TDMH and especially the nurses on the 2 South for taking such good care of him and us as we struggled with his and our frustration in dealing with his last days. We are fortunate to have such a great hospital.
In keeping with Paul’s wishes cremation has taken place. A public Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the Carriage Hall, 25 Brock St. W., Tillsonburg from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations made in his name to the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation are appreciated. Donations may be made directly, or by cheque through Ostrander Funeral Home, Tillsonburg ON who have been entrusted with Final Arrangements.
