Maria (Mariska) Balazs (nee Felder)
February 3, 1935 – July 21, 2024
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Maria, wife, mother, grandmother and friend after a brief illness.
Maria loved her family deeply and would do anything for them. Maria and Carl grew tobacco on Potters Road for many years, working side by side and raising a family. She loved cooking and baking for her family, and would often appear at our door with food and baked goods. She was a fantastic cook and baker. For many years, she was active at St. Ladislaus Roman Catholic Church in Courtland, baking and sausage making to raise funds for the Church. She found comfort in the Hungarian community at the Church. Maria was also active at the Hungarian Hall in Delhi for many years. She loved the many gatherings there over the years and she loved the music and dance of her Hungarian culture. Her family in Hungary meant very much to her – she missed them, and travelled often to visit them, and often phoned “home” to wish her sister a happy birthday. In Canada she treasured visits from her brother. Her friends were also very important to her. They shared cooking and baking recipes, they went on shopping expeditions, they quilted, they danced and they helped each other. Maria loved working in her flower garden. She looked forward to Spring when she could plant her flowers, water them, nourish them and smile at their beauty as they grew.
Maria is survived by her husband Carl (Karcsi), her daughter Susan (Marcus), her cherished grandson, Paul, her brother Joe (Agnes) in Kitchener, and her sister Erzsébet in Hungary as well as many nieces and nephews in Canada and Hungary. She is predeceased by her beloved son Carl (1982), her sister Katus and brother Balint in Hungary and her parents Felder Balint and Kretschman Katalin.
Friends and relatives will be received by Maria’s family at Ostrander’s Funeral Home; 43 Bidwell Street, Tillsonburg (519-842-5221) on Thursday, July 25, 2024, from 11:00am until 1:00pm. The Liturgical Service for Maria will be held following the visitation at 1:00pm in Ostrander’s Funeral Home Chapel with Father Seejo John officiating. Burial will be held immediately following the Service at St. Ladislaus Cemetery, Courtland, ON. Memorial donations to the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital Foundation or St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church can be made online directly with each organization or via cheque payable to the charity by contacting Ostrander’s Funeral Home.
