John Wies
July 10, 1944 – February 25, 2024
It is with deep sadness that our family announces the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend John Wies on February 25, 2024, in his 80th year.
Born and raised in the Delhi and Courtland areas, John was the son of John and Leotine Wies (Vangoethem). John took great pride in working at Livingstons / TDS for over 40 years. He had been an active member of the Delhi Kinsmen Club and hit many winning runs as one of their ball team players. When John was a resident of Courtland, he had coached his son and other young players through several playoff games of softball. And a good egg salad sandwich was tops on his list.
The simple pleasures in life brought joy to John. He enjoyed a quiet evening and a glass of wine on the back deck with his wife Wendy, fishing and target practicing with his grand kids, golfing with his family and friends, trying to solve crossword puzzles, trips to the casino to leave them a little money, nature and the outdoors, puttering in the yard, but most of all spending time with his family. Family was everything to John. He adored his wife, children and grandchildren and just as he did, they will continue to live their lives with kindness, empathy and joy.
He is survived by his loving wife Wendy (Greenis); children Jeff (Lisa) and Jennifer (Brenden); and grandchildren Hayden and Denim; and Janet Wies.
John is also survived by siblings Jeanette Deelen (Gil), Bob VanGoethem (Susan), Linda McHugh (Pat), Bill McNaughton and James Kudelka.
Loving uncle to many nieces and nephews: Kim and Ross, Don and Lisa, Kelly and Bob, Brenda, Shannon and Rob, Brian and Kim, Barrie and Jacqueline and Jim and Tracy.
Also holding a special place in his heart are Patti, Brandon and Jessie; as well as many near and dear friends including Nelly Bell.
Predeceased by his parents John and Leotine Wies (VanGoethem), brother James Wies, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Max and Bonnie Greenis and sister-in-law Bonnie McNaughton.
Special thank you to the amazing doctors and nurses on floor 2 at The Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital. You know who you are, and we are so grateful for your incredible kindness and professional care.
A celebration of life is planned for April 27, 2024, 1:00 – 5:00 PM at Carriage Hall, 25 Brock Street in Tillsonburg.
Friends and family request donations be made to the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital and can be done online or via cheque payable to the Hospital by contacting Ostrander’s Funeral Home (519) 842-5221. Condolences may be shared at www.ostrandersfuneralhome.com
