Jaczko, Irene
1933 – 2024
Passed away peacefully at her home in her 92nd year, on Friday, May 31, 2024. Beloved wife of Mike Sr. for 59 years, predeceased her in 2015. She will be greatly missed by her son
Michael, daughter-in-law Stacey and granddaughters Kate (Ken) and Kristen (Amanda). She is survived by her sister-in-law Elizabeth Rukajy in Hungary. She was predeceased by her father Laszlo Virag and
mother Maria (Kuharick) as well as sister Elizabeth, and brothers Laszlo, Miklos, Pista, and Zoltan all in Hungary.
Irene was born in Olaszliszka, a small rural village of northeastern Hungary in 1933, and grew up in the time of the Nazi occupation of World War II. She married Mike in 1956 and subsequently immigrated to Canada during the Hungarian revolution. They settled in Tillsonburg and farmed on Potters Road for over 45 years. Irene was a skilled seamstress, quilter, and a keen gardener. She enjoyed these activities well into her late eighties. After retiring, she and Mike Sr. spent time tending to their gardens and remained active in the local
Hungarian and church community. She loved chatting with friends and neighbours and most of all spending time with her granddaughters as she watched them grow. She remained a strong willed and
determined force to reckon with.
The family will host a memorial visitation at Ostrander’s Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell St., Tillsonburg, ON, on Thursday, June 6, 2024 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 51 Venison St. West, Tillsonburg, Ontario by Father Seejo John.
