GORDON ALEXANDER HILL
“Poncho”
December 14, 1946 – December 25, 2023
They say the good ones always leave way too soon. Well, this surely hits hard on our heart strings.
After all the tears went away and our minds and hearts were clear and rested we truly as a family believe that yes, you left this world way too soon but you left on the most PERFECT Day…..CHRISTMAS morning almost like you had planned it by knowing that this was your favourite time of year by having your entire family surrounding you with unconditional love until the bitter end.
Christmas will now be celebrated even better and extra special each and every year knowing you will always be here in spirit with your entire family and we will be all TOGETHER as one.
May your kind soul find eternal peace, for you gave everything to your family. Your selflessness and endless devotion to your family will remain a guiding light in our hearts, inspiring us always.
You will be in our hearts forever Dad and you leave behind a TRUE LEGACY of the utmost strength, determination, pride, selflessness, endless support, love and generosity for your family and friends that will forever be cherished by all.
Gord’s smile lit up the room everywhere he went… He was larger than life, the life of the party, made friends everywhere he went, always made sure everyone was looked after before himself and who always had a story to make everyone laugh. There will never be enough words to thank him for everything he’s done for everyone.
He brought so much love and happiness to everyone around him.
He was the PILLAR that has and always will hold his family together and we will cherish you always and carry forth your legacy on forever!
You left the world a proud man, an exceptional husband, father and grandfather and was well loved by everyone!! We are so proud and honoured to have you apart of our lives for all the special unforgettable times we had together as a family. Love you forever. You are and always will be one of the best around. Live on Dad.
Gord had so many accomplishments in his life…just some that have stood out are:
1. The Trade Mission he went on in March 15, 1981. Gord went to Trinidad, Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic. Worked with the Ministry of Industry and Tourism on an Industry Trade Mission.
2. General Instruments in Delhi in 1985. Gord was a sales representative and was appointed to represent the manufacturing company and support the installation company Hamilton Received & Broadcast systems called Project OASIS (Office Automation Systems Integrations Services) to install the First EVER computer network on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Gord worked alongside the engineers at MIT (Medical – Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and CBC the Project managers. This was a huge accomplishment.
3. Ministry of the Solicitor General Ontario Crime Prevention Award 1984-1989 DRUG ENFORCEMENT. “Every day, law enforcement officers across the country are asked to respond to some of the most difficult, most dangerous, and most traumatic moments that our communities face,” Gord faced many throughout his years of service.
4. Kentucky Colonel – The highest honor awarded by the Commonwealth of Kentucky is that of Kentucky Colonel. The Colonels are Kentucky’s ambassadors of good will and fellowship around the world. Commissions as Kentucky Colonels are presented for contributions to the community, state or nation, and for special achievements of all kinds.
5. Buying a GM Dealership with his best friend Reme Degroote and successfully growing it, loving it and having it for 25 years. Degroote-Hill will always be well known when they had it as they both put their heart and soul into that business, donating money towards so many organizations that needed help around their community.
Gord will be greatly missed and endlessly loved by his beautiful loving wife Linda and his daughters Cristie (Darren), Corry (Devin) cherished grandchildren of Taylor, (Andrew), Madison, (Jagger), Nick, Shauna (Hayden), Amber, step-grandchildren Jorja and Tommy and his brother Larry (Teresa) and his entire extended family who were all his entire world.
Gord is Predeceased by his parents Bert and Jean Hill, and his sister Barb (Keith).
When I go, don’t learn to live without me, just learn to live with my love in a different way.
And if you need to see me, close your eyes or look in your shadow when the sun shines, I’m there.
Sit with me in the quiet and you will know that I did not leave.
There is no leaving when a soul is blended with another.
When I go, don’t learn to live without me, just learn to look for me in the moments.
I will be there.
Our sincerest thanks to the Nurses, Doctors and Staff at the TDMH, Rachel Andrew and to Brenda and Bruce Wentzel (sister and brother in law) words cannot describe how much we thank you and love you both for your countless times you were there to help dad and all our family and friends for giving so much of yourself to provide the care and attention our father needed. We appreciate your dedication, your wisdom, your compassion and your grace. Our father knew he was in good hands, and so did we. We are all so very grateful.
