Gladys Baynton
December 22, 1916 – January 8, 2024
Saying goodbye is never easy and when you have had the privilege of loving and being loved by someone as amazing as Gladys Baynton, who shared her love, kindness, grace, and remarkable sense of humor for over 107 years, it is so much more difficult. It is heartbreaking to have to announce that Gladys died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, January 8, 2024 at Caressant Care Courtland.
She will be greatly missed by her daughter Barbara Baynton, daughter-in-law Mary Baynton, grandchildren Peter Everitt (Lorrie), Kelly Horvath (Andy), Kerry Everitt, Annemarie Baynton (Kalman), Daniel Baynton (Amanda), David Baynton (Lynn), and Christopher Baynton (Jessica), great grandchildren Jennifer Horvath Cao (Michael), Haley Everitt (partner Anthony), Mandy Horvath (partner Mat), Robyn Everitt, Charlotte Baynton, and Dominic Baynton, and a great great granddaughter, Elsie Cao, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Gladys was predeceased by her husband Peter Baynton, parents Louis and Grace (Hammond) Green, and her siblings Bruce, Harry, Ross, Adele, Guy, and Ivan.
Gladys was born on December 22,1916 and grew up in South Portage. Some of her favourite childhood memories were of the many adventures she had with her brothers and sister on the Lake of Bays. Family was so very important to Gladys and she thoroughly enjoyed caring for and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren over the years.
She was a manager at Scotts and worked in the hospitality industry for her entire career. It was through these experiences that she became not only a gracious hostess but also the most amazing cook. Her specialties and “Grandma’s Cure-Alls” were custard, chicken soup, butter tarts, and date cookies.
Gladys loved adventure and in her 80s, she traveled to Africa where she rode a camel through the desert and cruised in the Caribbean.
Everyone who met Gladys loved her and knew that they had met truly one of the most special people in the world. One understands the remarkable influence an individual has had when 107 years is not enough time. Although we will miss her terribly, we are so fortunate to have more than a lifetime of memories.
Your cheerful smile,
Your heart of gold,
You were the best this world could hold.
Never selfish always kind,
These are the memories you leave behind.
While you sleep a peaceful sleep,
Fond memories of you we will always keep.
No verse, no flowers, no tears can say,
How much we will miss you every day.
The family would like to thank the staff at Caressant Care Courtland for loving and caring for our mother and grandma in such a special manner.
In keeping with Gladys’ wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family gathering will be held at a later date.
