Trottier, Gilbert Joseph
It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Gilbert Joseph Trottier (Gil) on November 27, 2023 at Sakura House Hospice, Woodstock, at the age of 85. Gil was the loving husband and best friend to Rachel (Hanson) for 65 years. He was the proud father to Lynda (Ken), Paul (Debbie), Wayne, Ann (Terry). He was predeceased by his daughter Jill (1979), his parents Leon & Anna Trottier (Lascelle), 8 sisters and 4 brothers. Gil will be remembered by 11 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He was born in Windsor, Ontario and as a young man he joined the Armed Forces where he served for 20 years and also met Rachel during that time. In his earlier years he had a love for fishing and hunting and always enjoyed taking his family on many fishing outings. Cooking was another passion of his and he enjoyed cooking for community events and also operated a restaurant for several years in the Callander area. Gil and Rachel played in a bowling league for many years, a sport he thoroughly enjoyed. In his later years he took great pleasure from visits from his children and grandchildren and was also fond of playing cards and dominoes with his friends. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to all the staff at Victoria Hospital (London) and Sakura House Hospice (Woodstock) for the compassionate care they provided. As per Gil’s wishes a private family visitation will be held at Ostrander’s Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 11:00am, St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Tillsonburg. As expressions of sympathy, donations to The Salvation Army or Sakura House Hospice (Woodstock) would be greatly appreciated by the family.
