It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of George Edward Virag on August 18, 2024, age 86, at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital. Loving husband of 60 years of Mary (nee Spohn) and sons George Jr and David. Dear brother of the late Michael Virag, the late Lenke (nee Barton), Helen Kardos (nee Virag) and the late John Kardos. George will be sadly missed by many relatives and friends. Prior to living and working in the Tillsonburg area George started his career in radio broadcasting in North Bay and Woodstock before settling in Tillsonburg where he was a dedicated employee of Livingston Industries (21 years) and Autoneum Canada Ltd. (16 years). Throughout his life he was an enthusiastic fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Cleveland Indians (now the Cleveland Guardians). He was a proud member of the Tillsonburg Senior Choir who enjoyed performing with his fellow choir members. George was also a long-time parishioner of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church. George was proud to be a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Family will receive friends and relatives at Ostrander’s Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell St., Tillsonburg, 519-842-5221 on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 from 4:00-6:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Tillsonburg on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at 11:00 am. Interment will be at the Tillsonburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital Foundation would be appreciated and can be done directly with the charity or by contacting the funeral home.
