Taylor, Douglas Amos (June 17, 1947 – January 24, 2024)
It is with great sadness, that we the Taylor family, wish to announce the passing of our much-loved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, Douglas (‘Doug’) Amos Taylor, on January 24th, 2024, at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, at the age of 76. Doug was born in Chatham, to Norman and Helen (Babcock) Taylor. Doug has always been a cowboy at heart, but wore many hats over his lifetime, in his work, hobbies and when volunteering. In his younger years, Doug was a trooper in the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps and completed basic training in Petawawa. He worked at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital where he met his wife Sharon. He was a roofer, welder, and small engine repair mechanic for several years. He was a stagecoach driver, worked in the Tillsonburg News (printing department), maintenance at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, factory worker at DDM Plastics, a gunsmith, and a transport truck driver. Within the community Doug was a dedicated member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church and 41-year member of the St. Mary’s Knights of Columbus, Council 3212. He was a boy scout leader for over a decade, a member of the Big Brothers mentoring program, and an active member at the Royal Canadian Legion. In his younger years, Doug enjoyed Broncs and Bull Riding through competitions at the Ontario Rodeo Association. Doug is survived by his dear wife of 50 years, Sharon (Steele) Taylor, of Tillsonburg. Together, they raised three sons: Joseph Taylor, of Tillsonburg; Arthur Taylor, of London; Chuck (wife Gabie) Taylor, of Ingersoll and their children Christopher and Emma. Also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Doug is predeceased by all three of his siblings Bill Taylor, Mary Huckle, and Patricia Board.
In keeping with Doug’s expressed wishes, body bequeathal has been organized. It was Doug’s wishes for his body to be used by the Western University for teaching and research purposes. A public Knights of Columbus Prayer Service will be held on Saturday, February 3rd, 2024, at 7:00 p.m., led by the Knights of Columbus, Council 3212.
