Armstrong, Adele Marie (Sheehy) (September 16, 1932 – December 8, 2023) –
It is with great sadness that we the family of Adele Armstrong wish to announce her peaceful passing, on Friday, December 8th, 2023, after a years-long, courageous battle with cancer, at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, in her 92nd year. Adele will be lovingly remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, lifelong teacher, and friend to many. Adele will also be remembered for her many years of dedication as a teacher between Monsignor O’Neil, St. Mary’s (Elementary) and as a valued “reading buddy” at St. Joseph’s school, Tillsonburg. Always an avid volunteer in the Tillsonburg community and her church community, Adele was an active member and Past President of the St. Mary’s Catholic Women’s League, member and Past President of the Kinnette Club, past Chairperson of the Tillsonburg and District Association for Community Living, longtime volunteer with the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, volunteer with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and a dedicated member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church. Adele positively influenced the lives of anyone lucky enough to meet her and she will be dearly missed by her husband of 65 wonderful years, John G. Armstrong, of Tillsonburg. Always a loving mother and mother-in-law to: Joanne (Steve DeVoe), of Mississauga; Trish (Paul Hague), of Strathroy; Gary (Janthana) Armstrong, of Tillsonburg. Always a caring and proud grandmother to Jackie, Katie and Maddy DeVoe; Emily (Janos Poag), Gillian Hague (Joop Herrmann); Yean, Ohm Armstrong. Special great-grandmother to Jimmy Poag. Caring sister to Merrell (Bill) Morrissey, of Peterborough. Also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins. Predeceased by her parents James and Mabel (Merrell) Sheehy and by her siblings: Eleanor (Eugene Sheedy), William (Ruth) Sheehy, Jim (Ethel) Sheehy, Fergus (Joan) Sheehy, Marnie (Jim) Hayes.
Friends, neighbours and relatives are invited to attend public visitation on Friday, December 15th, 2023, between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes Chapel, 262 Broadway, Tillsonburg. C.W.L. Prayers will be held on Friday at 4:30 p.m. A complete Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 16th, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s R.C. Church, 51 Venison St. W., Tillsonburg, by Rev. Fr. Seejo John. All funeral attendees are invited to attend a C.W.L. prepared luncheon, immediately following the funeral mass, in the St. Mary’s Church basement. Cremation follows with later inurnment in the Tillsonburg Cemetery Columbarium.
