DAY: Lucy Bella Day was born June 4th, 1954, in Red Lake, ON. Born to Bertha Linklater and Mike Day, raised by Angus Manoakeesic. She passed away in the late evening of April 9, 2024 at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital with loved ones by her side.
She will be deeply missed. She is survived by sisters Cathy Rae (Peter), Anne Meekis, Mary Meekis, brothers Sonny Manoakeesic (Melodie), Gary Manoakeesic (Andra), Marvin Manoakeesic, as well as her children she helped raise; William and Jeremiah, and many nieces, nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews, including the ones who welcomed her into her home and took care of her her last month, Tyla and Nilav. She will also be missed by special friends that became family in Weagamow; Kendra and Lisa and their families. She is predeceased by her parents and her sisters Sarah Fiddler and Elizabeth Day.
Lucy was a very strong woman. Always wanted to do things herself, and she did. She worked as long as she was able to, she loved the children and young ones. She just loved teaching and working with them. Lucy didn’t have any children of her own, but she was a mother to many. She raised some and I’m sure she’s appreciated for it. She loved to spend time with her family. She also loved to travel and go on adventures, she enjoyed fishing and spending her time going to yard sales to search for treasures to give to the people she loved. She loved to give gifts to people to brighten their day. Lucy taught in Sandy Lake and Weagamow for many years, she loved her job as a teacher.
The viewing service will be Friday, April 12, 2024, 10 am to 12 pm, Blake Funeral Home, Thunder Bay. The family will travel home Saturday, April 13, 2024, with a 2 hour stop in Round Lake then to Sandy Lake. The casket will be taken to the family home where it will stay for 2 nights. The funeral will be on Monday, April 15, 2024, starting at 1 pm, at Mennonite Church, with Amos Esh officiating. Burial will follow at Sandy Lake Community Cemetery.
