With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our mother, June Cole on May 20, 2024, at the age of 93. She was born on June 16,1930 in Port Arthur to Alex and Florence Gray and she spoke with affection of her family life and home on John Street. She met her husband of 73 years, Len, at a Legion dance and they married in August of 1948 and then together they built a family business which supported their family. June worked into her 80’s as business manager and treasurer of Len Cole Ltd. Together with Len, they built 3 homes. The first one was a tiny modest one on Matthew Street with 2 rooms and no running water; their next home was a 3-bedroom bungalow on Egan Street; and lastly after years of hard work, they built their home overlooking Lake Superior on Albany Street. They built their family, raising 6 children and they shared many good memories. For us, Mom was the heart of our home offering stability when Dad needed to work out of town. On top of managing the business, she managed our home, juggling schedules and cooking meals for 8 of us daily. But Dad ensured she would take care of herself too, which was a lesson we all need. She was a well-loved member of the community and built many friendships. Her friends included members of her knitting club, bridge club, mixed curling club, clogging group, church, and neighborhood.
June will be lovingly remembered by her children, Sandra (Ted) Carroll, Dianne (Ed McFarlane), David, Patti (Jarvis) Sameluk, James (Heather Korpi) and Jane Anne (Mike) Langille; grandchildren Anne, Jennifer, Glen, Andrew, Erin, Bradley, Jeremy, Justin, Leonard, Melissa and Jessica and 13 great grandchildren. June was predeceased by her husband Len, mother Florence Gray, Father Alex Gray, sister Betty Lou Toskovich, and great granddaughter, Julianna Antenucci.
June resided in Southbridge Roseview for the last year of her life. Special thanks to the care that she received there from the staff, and most appreciably from her companion and special caregiver, Myrna Lingon.
Yes, we are our own people, but we are also an imprint of our parents, and with ours we were blessed to have had the best of chances to thrive and flourish. You and Dad are together again. We will miss you both and love you always.
A private ceremony with immediate family will be held at a date yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers, a donation to your favorite charity will be appreciated. Online condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
