It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Fiorina DiGiacinto on June 5, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Fiorina was born on December 9, 1946, in Bisenti, Teramo, Italy. From a young age, she was drawn to the convent Istituto Suore Della Santa Famiglia, where she spent over 11 cherished years embracing the teachings of religion, discipline, sacrifice, and selflessness. During her time at the convent, Fiorina was given the responsibility of looking after children and teaching elementary students in the classroom. She formed enduring friendships and found joy in educating children. She also discovered a lifelong passion for the piano, which she played beautifully until her final days. Though she deeply valued her time at the convent, she eventually felt a desire for a family of her own, leading to her heartfelt decision to leave.
In 1968, Fiorina immigrated to Thunder Bay, Canada, where she met her beloved husband, Riccardo DiGiacinto. Together, they raised three wonderful children.
Fiorina embraced her role as a mother and homemaker, becoming known for her culinary skills. She delighted in preparing meals for neighbours, friends, and family. Fiorina was a head cook at a local restaurant, where she used her own recipes. She was also a dedicated community member, often found at the neighbourhood church, where she volunteered and played the piano. She had a passion for teaching and was invited to produce Italian shows on the local television station, where she showcased young talented Italian children. Driven by her passion for helping any student who wanted to participate in the show, she thrived on seeing their improvements over time. Children performed plays, skits, dances, poems, and music recitals. Her love for music and the arts was evident in all she did.
Fiorina is survived by her children Bruno, Rosanna (Albert) Hathazi, and Paula (Jon) Hari, and her grandchildren Alexa, Rob, Josh, and Juliana. She is also survived by her sister Splendora Di Loretto and nephews Father Fabrizio Di Loretto and Carlo (Simone) Di Loretto.
She was predeceased by her husband Riccardo DiGiacinto, her mother Anna Domenica Melchiorre, and her father Emidio D’Adamo.
Funeral services for Fiorina DiGiacinto will be held at 9:00 am on Saturday, June 8, 2024, with family and friends gathering at Sargent and Son, with Rev. Luigi Filippini presiding. Entombment following in St. Andrew’s Cemetery. If friends and family so desire, a donation can be made to the charity of your choice.
