The family of Douglas G. Ballantyne sadly announce his passing on January 18, 2024. Doug was born on February 2, 1944, in Port Arthur, Ontario. As a young boy Doug attended Pine Street School and later PACI. He enjoyed sports, especially baseball, football and tennis, and his summers at Two Island Lake. After high school he attended Lakehead University and then the University of Toronto to study dentistry. After graduating he returned to Thunder Bay to establish his career in private practice where he practiced for 55 years.
Doug loved his time at Two Island Lake, spending time with family and lifelong friends. He also spent time fishing and hunting, but the friendships and camaraderie always meant more to him than the fishing and hunting.
Doug will be greatly missed by Joanne, his wife of 49 years; children Michael (Neilin), Katie (Chris), and Cory; grandchildren Sophie and Neidel; brother Don Ballantyne (Wendy); special cousin Lynda McKeown; and granddog Tito.Doug was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Henrietta Ballantyne, and his brother Gordie.
Cremation has taken place. A service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Foundation – Northern Cardiac Fund would be appreciated. Online condolences may be expressed at www.sargentandson.com.
