Clyde Maxwell Rendell
July 31/1942-December 11/2024
Clyde was born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, to James and Frances (nee Roberts) Rendell, and even though he moved to the mainland at just nine months of age, he remained forever proud of his “newfie” heritage. In 1954, the family relocated to Red Rock, where Clyde spent the next 70 years of his life.
In 1964, Clyde married Lesley Nyman, and together they raised three children at 32 Stewart Avenue, where the couple happily resided for 58 years.
Clyde enjoyed life. He curled, coached a little hockey, served as a Scout Master, and was an active member of his union. Two fly-in fishing trips with his bestie and crib partner, Gary, were definite highlights. Later in life, he took up kayaking and, throughout it all, remained an avid photographer. He loved walking Boomer with Mike and Bella, looked forward to pea soup suppers with Shelby (with a glass or two of wine), and spent each summer growing vegetables and flowers in his yard.
Most of all, Clyde was a dedicated family man. Nothing brought him more joy than having his family gathered together for meals, holiday celebrations, and even a Disney Cruise (or two).
Clyde is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Lesley; his son James Eric (wife Kelli); his daughters, Mandy Jean (husband Steven) and Julie Anna; and four amazing grandchildren: Claire (partner Barb), Connor, Emily (partner Corbin) and Liam. He is also survived by his siblings: Maxine, Joan (husband Pat), Willma, and Barbara (husband John), and sister-in-law Bernice; his siblings by marriage: Ted and Gwen, Merrie-Lee and Vern; and many, many nieces and nephews.
Clyde is predeceased by his parents, Jim and Fannie; his father-in-law Eric and mother-in-law Goldie; his sister Rosie and her husband Cyril, his brother Ray; his brother-in-law Ted; and his siblings by marriage: Carla, Charlie, Paul, Sonya, and Inga. He was also predeceased by nephews Kevin, David, and Brett, and niece Karen.
A celebration of life will be held for Clyde in warmer weather. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
Special thanks to the staff of 2B at the TBRHSC for their kindness and compassion, and for the exceptional care they provided Clyde during his final months. Thank you also to Roberta, our “earth angel”, and to Tammy “Who” – our unofficial third daughter, who could always make Clyde laugh.
We will love Clyde and miss him forever.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
“If you get there before I do
Don’t give up on me
I’ll meet you when my chores are through
I don’t know how long I’ll be
…But I’m not gonna let you down
Darlin’, wait and see
And between now and then
Until I see you again
I’ll be loving you
Love, me”
Lesley
