Cheryl Hostland
Cheryl Dianne Hostland was born March 27, 1947 in Rainy River to parents Emile and Hilda Laverdure. She died peacefully at St Joe’s hospice in Thunder Bay on Tuesday, June 25, 2024. She was surrounded by family and friends just as she was in life. Her hospital room had as much of a revolving door as her home (it was always busy with friends “popping in”) with a steady stream of people coming to hold her hand and say goodbye. Her faith in God was unwavering and she maintained strength and grace through her illness and death. Even though the last year was a difficult journey for her, the end still felt sudden and was a tremendous loss to all who knew and loved her.
After a childhood in Sioux Narrows, Ontario, Cheryl lived in a few different places over the years, including Saskatoon. In 1988, she settled in Thunder Bay with her family. For many years, until retirement, she worked in the records department at Port Arthur General Hospital and Thunder Bay Regional Hospital.
Cheryl is predeceased by both parents as well as infant brother Andre. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years Terry, son Terry (Tag), daughter Lissa, son in law Darryl, and her beloved “miracle baby” (her words!) grandson Treyson James, brother Rene, as well as many extended family members.
Her kindness and generosity were unparalleled. Cheryl loved with her whole heart and always put everyone else first. She saw the good in everyone and had a child-like curiosity about anyone who crossed her path. She was quirky and loved to have fun. She practiced yoga before yoga was cool. She was a skilled belly dancer and made all her own costumes. She loved the beach and dancing. And did you know she could play the accordion?
She will be forever missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Heaven has gained another angel.
Funeral services will be held at Epiphany Lutheran Church 11:00 a.m. on July 20th, 2024 at 333 Morse Street, Thunder Bay, with reception/celebration of life to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honour to Epiphany Lutheran Church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
