It is with profound sadness that the family of Mr. Albert Gladu, age 73 years, announce
his passing on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Albert was born June 27, 1951 in MacDiarmid, Ontario to Rene and Elizabeth
(Morriseau) Gladu. Growing up, Albert moved around to various places throughout
Northwestern Ontario, alongside his parents and his 11 siblings. After settling in Hurkett,
Ontario, Albert met and married his wife, Diane and together they went on to raise their
three children; Clint, Luke and Matt.
Albert was a hardworking man who would do anything to provide for his family and
children. Throughout his working life Albert held many different positions, but he always
came back to the one he loved most – long haul trucking. During his time driving
transport trucks for Erb, Albert travelled across North America and was able to build
many great friendships and relationships. While on his travels, he was always sure to
stop and take a picture of a sunset or a scenic view. The love of family and especially
his grandchildren always brought Albert home with stories, gifts and many jokes to
share.
When he wasn’t working or on the road, Albert loved to spend his time outdoors. Some
of his fondest memories included fall family hunting trips, exploring the land in his
community of Bingwi Neyaashi Anishinaabek (Sand Point First Nation), relaxing at his
sister Priscilla’s camp or playing and exploring with his grandchildren. He loved to visit
local restaurants, especially Kangas Sauna, to share a meal and conversation with his
friends or loved ones. His kindness, generosity and support knew no bounds and he
was often the first to extend a helping hand to any and all who needed it.
Albert is survived by his sons Luke (Erja) and Matt (Kristy); grandchildren Ashley,
Emery, Lyric, Bow and Blake; great-grandchildren Brody and Ryan; sisters Ellen (Tom),
Vera (Bob), June (Paul) and Priscilla (Keith); brothers Adam (Grace), Lyle (Melanie),
Rene (Irene) and Paul, brother-in-law Joe Ladouceur, as well as numerous nieces,
nephews and cousins.
He is predeceased by his wife, Diane; son, Clint; parents, Elizabeth and Rene; siblings,
Henry, Peter and Annette.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Chan and Dr. Sellick at the
Thunder Bay Regional Cancer Centre. The family also extends their gratitude to Dr.
Migay, Dr. Bhanabhai, Dr. Bassouny and the nursing staff at St. Joseph’s Hospice for
their exceptional and compassionate care.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, December 1, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at The
Foundry on Red River Road, with words of remembrance being spoken at 2:00pm.
Should family and friends so desire, donations may be made to The Underground Gym.
