Alan Kartinen – Big Al
December 11th, 1950 – August 21st, 2024
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. Alan passed away peacefully on August 21st, 2024, after his courageous battle with cancer. He will always be remembered for his strength during this time. Alan was born in Port Arthur hospital and raised in Murillo. He will always be remembered by his kind heart, willingness to lend a helping hand, and his goofiness that always found a way to make you smile. He often enjoyed fishing, camping, and cruising along in his 1982 EL Camino, where he gained one of his many nicknames, AL Camino. He always enjoyed a coffee and a chat, or a cold one, with his loved ones and friends.
Alan is survived by his sons; Alan Junior, Joey (Judy) Hamre, Rob (Andrea) Hamre. His grandchildren; Katelyn (David) Buchan, Brandon (Kendrina) Hamre, Rylie (Zachary) Bakker, and Tyler Hamre. Great-Grandchildren; Jayda and Briar Buchan. His Sisters; Ilona McDonald, Marlene (Cliff) Karila, Mary Brown, and Anne (Leonard) Nuhn. His Brothers; Willie (Natalie), and Carl (Dawn). Sisters-in-law; Leonie (Omer) Belisle, Eileen (Bruce) Crozier. As well as his many nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins he loved and valued deeply. Alan is predeceased by his darling wife Kathy, Parents; Walter John and Mary Miriam (Forsgren) Kartinen as well as Brothers-in-law Angus McDonald and Dave Brown.
Alan’s family would like to send out much love and appreciation for all the hard work from the nurses and doctors at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital and St. Joseph Hospital. No service will be held per his wishes. Interment of ashes will be at Stanley Hill Cemetery. If friends or family so desire, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
