BYRD, Glenda Marilyn (McIlwain)
Passed on to her heavenly home, to be reunited with Gary, her beloved husband of 64 years, on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth. Glenda was born 84 years ago in Goderich, Ontario and grew up in the country store at Carlow. She was a long-time resident of the Milverton Community.
Glenda was a devoted and loving mother and will be deeply missed by her son Robert and daughter Geri (Ross). Proud and loving grandmother of Max (Jeremy), Sarah and Bethany. Dear great-grandmother of Lillia and Kaz. As an only child, Glenda cherished the special bond she shared with her cousins and their families. Glenda is survived by her sister-in-law Donna (Noel) and brother-in-law Randy (Mary Jane). Glenda will be sadly missed by many nephews, nieces and friends.
Predeceased by her parents, Frank and Eva McIlwain, her husband Gary Byrd, brothers-in-law Ron and wife Rosemary and Ted and wife Alice and sister-in-law Palmer.
Glenda was an active, long-time member of Poole Mennonite Church. She, along with Gary, were the proud owners of the Curiosity Shoppe in Milverton and were always very thankful for the community support. Glenda was very involved in her community and enjoyed volunteering with the Milverton Thrift Store and serving on the board at Knollcrest Lodge. She was a proud Red Hat member for many years. Glenda will be fondly remembered for sharing her love of singing, playing the piano, flower arranging, decorating for every occasion, and setting the perfect table. She will be missed for her kind and generous nature.
Glenda’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and volunteers at Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth for all of their care and compassion.
At Glenda’s request, cremation has taken place. A visitation at Poole Mennonite Church, 6475 Road 121, Poole, will take place on Sunday, May 26, 2024 from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m, followed by a memorial service at 2:30 p.m. Pastor Fred Redekop to officiate. Afterward, a time for fellowship will be held in the church basement.
As expressions of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Poole Mennonite Church or the Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth and can be done through the funeral home.
