Stanley John Richard Mills

Stanley John Richard Mills, known fondly as “Stan,” passed away peacefully on November 9, 2024, at the age of 94, at Cedarvale Lodge in Keswick. Born on September 12, 1930, “on the kitchen table,” as he liked to say, in Amaranth Township, Ontario, Stan grew up in Mimico, where he excelled in sports like baseball, basketball, football, hockey, and, above all, his favorite pastime, golf.
As a young man, Stan spent his summers on his uncle’s farm, working the land by pulling rocks from fields and stooking hay. It was not long after that he met the love of his life, Evelyn (Elliot), whom he married in 1954. They shared over 60 beautiful years together until Evelyn’s passing in 2016. Stan had a long and successful career as the Data Processing Manager at Duracell, retiring in 1990. In their retirement, Stan and Evelyn spent many winters in Florida, enjoying the sunshine and working on their tans.
In 1966, Stan took up curling, a passion that would bring him much joy and pride over the years. Competing across Ontario, he won numerous trophies and once achieved an “eight-ender” in the early ’70s—an impressive feat he was immensely proud of. He loved golfing with friends throughout his life, only stepping back when Evelyn needed him by her side.
Stan and Evelyn made their home in Oakville, where they raised two sons, David and Danny. As a father, Stan was known for his sense of humor, unwavering work ethic, and dedication to his family. He and Evelyn took their sons camping and created memories that would last a lifetime. He was, as they remember, a wonderful father and role model.
In his later years, Stan moved to Keswick, where he lived happily with his son David and daughter-in-law Lori, surrounded by the love of his family.
Stan is survived by his sons, David (Lori) and Danny (Margaret); his cherished grandchildren, Lindsay (Chad), Garrett (Victoria), Katelyn (Jonathan), Jennifer (Jonathan), and Laura (Christian); and his great-grandchildren, Elle, Cora, Isla, and Jack. His family will remember him with deep love and gratitude for all the warmth and laughter he brought into their lives.
A private celebration of Stan and Evelyn’s lives will be held by the family at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Stan’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada would be greatly appreciated.
