Our hearts are broken and heavy as we share the passing of Robert James William aka “Jim” Dempsey on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Health Sciences North, as a result of complications related to COPD. Devoted husband of 31 years to Gisele (Demers) Dempsey; father of Laurie “Bear” (Lee) and twin sister Melanie (predeceased). Beyond adored by his 10-year-old granddaughter Dani Lee. Received in Heaven by his loving parents, mom Frances Dempsey (Hoddy) and dad Alfred Dempsey and his like-a-son nephew Darren. Brother of Dorothy (Frank) both predeceased), Tom (predeceased), Rosie (predeceased) (Paul), Donna (Doug predeceased), Barbara (Roger predeceased), Sandra (Tom), Kenny (Darlene), Nancy (predeceased). Beloved brother-in-law to Lise Demers, Luc Demers (Debbie), Diane Mikus, Francine Demers, Lucie Bisson (Andre), Guy Demers (Joanne), Helene Milad and Denis Demers (Sheryl). Many cherished and well-loved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Jim spent his career driving a Greyhound bus for 28 years. He shared 37 years with his beloved wife Gisele. They shared many years of love, trials, adventures, and lots of humor. Jim used a “good natured” tease on Gisele often, which was enjoyed by both. He was fond of sneaking sticks of mint gum to his daughter who would often go along for a “ride” to North Bay on his bus. Jim shared a special bond with his daughter Laurie. Jim loved to tease his granddaughter Dani Lee and say she was cheating at cards… even though they both were!
He loved all animals, especially his horses Bea, Rowdy, Max, and Emma. As well as many companion dogs throughout his life including Kolby, Chubby, Hershey, Barney, Bear, Frosty, Tiffany, Lady, Goldie, Chopper, Dinah, Billy Boy, and others.
He enjoyed his farm life, moose hunting, back roading, fishing, golfing, bowling, old country music, camping, bonfires, karaoke, playing guitar and dancing.
An entertainer at heart and wisecracking storyteller, spinning tales of justice that grew a little bigger, each time they were retold. Both stubborn, and as giving and generous as one could ever be. He is already deeply and sorely missed and will be celebrated every May 24th on his birthday with a piece of his favorite Black Forest cake.
Special mention to Whitney, a Personal Support Worker of Health Sciences North, who provided excellent care and love during his final weeks. We cannot thank you enough.
A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
