C’est avec regret que la famille annonce le décès de Rita Rose Turcot (née Robinson) le 30 septembre 2023, au Bob Rumball Home for the Deaf à Barrie (BRHD), à l’âge de 91 ans.
“Ma-tante Rita”, comme l’appelaient affectueusement celles et ceux qui l’aimaient, était une femme au cœur d’or. Agréable, aimable, forte, courageuse, déterminée, résiliente et accueillante, Rita aimait s’amuser à faire des projets variés de bricolage, y compris du tricot et du crochet, qu’elle partageait généreusement avec ses proches. Elle était aussi très sociable, adorait la crème glacée au caramel et elle remportait souvent les premiers prix au Bingo.
Rita fut prédécédée par son époux, Irénée Turcot de St-Charles, ainsi que par ses beaux-frères et belles-sœurs de la famille Turcot…Marie Jeanne (feu Albert Chèvrefils) Arthur, Noël (feu Carmen) Sr. Blanche(fdls), Sr. Madeleine(fdls), Yolande, Antoinette, Lilianne (feu Daniel Coyne), Marcel (feu Thérèse), Thérèse (feu Laurent Lemieux), Jean-Marie (feu Jacqueline), Gilles et Robert.
Rita laisse dans le deuil deux belles-sœurs, Denise (feu Gilles) et Hélène (feu Robert), ainsi que de nombreux neveux et nièces, arrières petits neveux et arrières petites nièces qu’elle aimait de tout son cœur.
La famille souhaite remercier sincèrement tous les membres du personnel de Bob Rumball Home for the Deaf (BRHD) à Barrie, qui lui ont offert un environnement accueillant, sécuritaire et sain dans lequel elle a pu retrouver un véritable sens de communauté dans un endroit où elle se sentait entendue, comprise, appréciée et aimée. Pendant plusieurs années, Rita a été présidente du Conseil des résidents du BRHD, où elle a contribué à l’amélioration continue des services qui sont offerts aux résidentes et aux résidents.
Rita était un modèle de force et de courage. Elle a toujours su persévérer dans les moments difficiles. Celles et ceux qui ont eu la chance de la connaître garderont toujours en mémoire son sourire affectueux et son rire taquin.

It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Rita Rose Turcot (née Robinson) on September 30, 2023, at the Bob Rumball Home for the Deaf in Barrie (BRHD), at the age of 91 years.
“Ma-tante Rita”, as she was affectionately known by those who loved her, was a woman with a heart of gold. She was pleasant, kind, strong, courageous, determined, resilient and welcoming. She enjoyed making various craft projects, including knitting and crocheting, which she generously shared with her loved ones. She was also very social, loved Butterscotch ice cream, and often won the first prizes at Bingo.
Rita was predeceased by her husband Irénée Turcot of St-Charles, as well as by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law of the Turcot family…Marie Jeanne (late Albert Chèvrefils), Arthur, Noël (late Carmen), Sr. Blanche (fdls), Sr. Madeleine (fdls), Yolande, Antoinette, Lilianne (late Daniel Coyne), Marcel (late Thérèse), Thérèse (late Laurent Lemieux), Jean-Marie (late Jacqueline), Gilles and Robert.
Rita is survived by her two sisters-in-law, Denise (late Gilles) and Hélène (late Robert), and by many nieces, nephews, great-grandnieces, and great-grandnephews whom she loved with all her heart.
The family wishes to sincerely thank all the staff at the Bob Rumball Home for the Deaf in Barrie, who provided her with a welcoming, safe, and healthy environment, one in which she was able to regain a true sense of community, in a place where she felt heard, understood, appreciated, and loved. She served as President of the BRHD Residents’ Council for many years, contributing to the continual improvement of services offered to the residents.
Rita was a model of strength and courage. She always knew how to persevere in difficult times. Those who had the good fortune of knowing her will always remember her affectionate smile and teasing laugh.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at St-Charles Borromée Parish in St-Charles, on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 11 a.m. Donations can be made by cheque or online at www.cooperativefuneralhome.ca on behalf of The Bob Rumball Foundation for the Deaf.
