Lindol Hawke Obituary
HAWKE, Lindol Gerald (1944 – 2024)
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Lindol Gerald Hawke, on Wednesday June 19, 2024, at the age of 79 years, in Sudbury.
Lindol is leaving Lise, his wife of 55 years and their children, Judy, Bill, and Dan. He will also be missed and lovingly remembered by his grandson, Desmond.
Lindol was originally from Farnham, in the Eastern Townships of Quebec. Lindol grew up active in local scouting and high school football. He then went to the University of Montreal and Mount Allison University to prepare for a career as a teacher where he later taught high school for 5 years in Moncton. Lindol then shifted his career to the mining industry in a Human Resources role, working and living in remote Fermont and Port Cartier, Quebec, Elliot Lake, Ontario and then on to Sudbury, where he prevailed for 34 years, retiring from Falconbridge in 1994.
Lindol was an avid skier, carpenter, outdoors person and enjoyed focusing his free time on family, raising several dogs, and could be found most often at the family camp on Wavy Lake. In recent years, Lindol became a well-known fixture at the 2nd Avenue dog park in New Sudbury, making new friends with this pocket full of treats.
Lindol was a gentle and gracious family man, and good friend to all that knew him, and will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, June 27th, between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm, at 1527 Stillbrook Place, Sudbury.
