John Joesph MacDougall (Jack)
April 2nd, 1931- July 17th 2024
Jack passed away after along battle with several cancers in his waning years and one day short of the 20th Anniversary of his beloved Jane’s passing
Jack was the proud father of John, his wife Linda and step grandfather of Krista. Jack’s nephew Brent and niece Stacey held a special place in his heart having spent much of their formative years with him and Jane. Jack and Jane in later years found great enjoyment in caring for Erin and Ryan Hallet who have fond memories of that time in their lives
Jack was born in Fairmont, Antigonish Nova Scotia to proud parents John and Anne Cecilia (MacDonald) MacDougall. Jack is predeceased by his siblings, Ruthie (late Fred) Lovett, Christina (late Lewis) Stringer, Della (late Armand) LeBlanc, Jean (late John) Quirk, Florence (Kenny) Pellerin, Billy (late Helen) Dougald (late Shirley) and Carroll (Agatha)
He is survived by his siblings Frances, Colin (Colleen) and Anne (Charlie) MacKenzie. Throughout the years Jack dearly loved being able to go back home to be with his siblings and extended family.
Jack was well loved and large part of Jane’s extended Robinson Family. He is survived by Jane’s sister Isabell (Dave) Gobbo, sister in-law Cecile (late Albert).
Jack is remembered by nephews and nieces within both the MacDougall and the Robinson families
Jack left home in Nova Scotia at the youthful age of 18 and headed for the big city of Sudbury. It was the beginning of what was to be a lifetime career in mining. Yellowknife NWT, Kitimat BC .and Southern Ontario were places he would work before returning to Sudbury and work at Falconbridge Nickel Mines from where he retired after 30 plus years of service. Jack was a highly respected miner. Those he worked with and mentored appreciated his knowledge and attitude.
Upon retirement Jack, Jane and John spent several enjoyable years at their hobby farm in Markstay. It brought back memories of his childhood years spent on the family farm in Fairmont. Jack’s youthful employment in the woodlands of the Antigonish area gave him a love for draft horses. He and John came to share that love with their own team of draft horses. Doc and Duke provided them with many enjoyable hours and memories.
In later years, his vast knowledge helped John and Linda build their retirement home on Fairbank Lake, a place he loved to spend time. It brought him back into the woods and reminded him of the times spent hunting and fishing with family and friends.
He loved to watch hockey and attended Sudbury Wolves games with John. He loved the Toronto Blue Jays even getting to see a world series game at the Sky Dome. He would have loved to have Dougald there with him. The TV, no matter how he felt, had to be on to watch the daily Canadian Government Question period. This along with his thorough enjoyment of reading daily news papers, and various books kept him sharp and aware of current events.
His later years living at Amberwood were made pleasant and comfortable from the great staff that helped with his care. His mind and great attitude were with him to the very end expressing his gratitude and saying his goodbye to the doctors, nurses and other health care staff that cared for him in his short time in the ER and on the Palliative Care Unit at Health Sciences North.
Dad, you and Mom are now reunited. Once again you can enjoy with Blackie your long car rides.
Dougald has the Taxi ready for you and Granny to go to Fairmont with him.
Your smile and genuine love for people will be missed and remembered.
