Irene Wilma Simpson (Peever)
June 17, 1923 – May 17, 2024 (100 years)
No longer by our side but forever in our hearts.
Irene was born in North Bay to parents Goldie & Wilbert Peever (predeceased), joined a short time later by sister Helen Saunders (Vern, both predeceased). It was here she later met and married a strapping, young airman with the R.C.A.F., Maurice Simpson (predeceased).
The Simpsons then moved to the town of Creighton, where they had two loving daughters, Colleen Morrison, predeceased (Cliff & Lynda), and Phyllis Huculak, with whom they would later hand build a camp on Clearwater Lake, and enjoy summers together. During the cooler seasons, Irene worked as the secretary at the Creighton Mine Public School, taking great pride in her work.
With the population of Creighton slowly dwindling, the family moved to Sudbury. Irene took a position in the payroll department at the Sudbury Board of Education, volunteering in her spare time at Meals On Wheels, and the Cancer Centre, where she used her knitting skills to make blankets. She also taught many friends and neighbours how to make the perfect pie crust, an art which only her daughters (regrettably) could never master.
She was a lifetime member of Our Lady of Hope CWL, belonged to the Lockerby Legion, and knit for anyone and everyone who ever asked. She was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off of her back, while also knitting you another one.
Irene is survived by her daughter Phyllis, her grandchildren Jen (Erin), Chris (Krista), Wendy (Rod & family), and many nephews and nieces. Special sister-in-law to Velma Walker (Les, predeceased).
Per her wishes, there will be no funeral & she will be interred at the family plot at Lasalle Cemetery.
We ask in her honour, you consider making a donation to S.A.I.N.T.S. Sudbury dog rescue, as Irene was a friend to all furry creatures, and that you make a toast to her with a piping hot plate of poutine, her favourite meal & the secret key to longevity.
Special thanks to Park Lawn Services, and to all of the staff at Finlandia for their excellent care & compassion throughout her final journey.
Arrangements entrusted to Sudbury Park Lawn Cremation Services.
