Frances Vere (nee Zalefski) entered Eternal Life peacefully, May 14th 2024 just two months short of her 102nd birthday, She survived her husband Victor John Vere forty years, Her parents, three brothers, and four sisters are all predeceased, She is survived by her son Victor Frank Vere, whom she resided with in Sudbury the past eight years, She is also survived by her daughter Mildred (Millie) Vere of Southern Ontario, four grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, as well as many nephews and nieces,
She was a person who valued her faith, and was committed to many charitable works. She took great pride in her work with and financial support of the Good Shepherd facility in Hamilton, continuing such support while in Sudbury. She enjoyed her time working with Challenged and Disabled Children, as well as establishing a Stroke Club with her sister in Hamilton Ontario for many years.
She was a global traveller, skilled in many crafts and her eighties. She bought a new car on her 95th birthday, (optimism) and drove until she was 97 years of age. She was an avid reader exploring complicated histories, biographies and historical novels.
She corresponded using her iPad and enjoyed “Murder She Wrote”.She attended Our Lady of Hope Parish in Sudbury, until she was no longer able to walk. She befriended Monsignor R. Farrell, Monsignor Brian Dixon, Father Larry Rymes, Deacon Roland Muzzatti who never missed Monday 10:30 coffees with her during her stay in Sudbury. She was most appreciative of the Spiritual Direction provided by Bishop Robert Bourgon who anointed her and gave her the last rites of the Church.Frances was a determined woman, possessing what she called “Polish Perseverance.” She always put others first, never complained about aches and pains, and always saw the best in others.
Her Catholic Faith was her rock, and a rosary was always in her hands. A rosary that she prayed.
She fought the good fight, and ran a good race, never giving up on life, motivated by a strong will to live.When asked about her longevity, she would often reply, ” The golden years are something, but platinum is better, and then a stiff shot of brandy helps out too, but not the cheap stuff.”
Resting at the Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch Street, Sudbury.
Friends may gather after 9:30AM, Monday.
Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Hope Church, 591 Brennan Road, Sudbury, Monday, May 20, 2024 at 11AM.
Interment in the family plot at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Burlington.
