In loving memory of Edith “Edie” Keeley, who died in her 88th year, after a battle with congestive heart failure. Surrounded by her family, she passed away in the comforts of her home on July 7, 2024. Re-united now with her loving husband Jim. She will be forever missed by her children Brendan (Carey) and Noreen (Steve), her grandchildren Shannon, Matthew, Nathan, Katrina, Ashleigh, Marcus, and great grandchild Miles. Predeceased by her brothers Liam, Ignus and Kevin and fondly remembered by her brothers Joe (Josephine), Tony (Nellie), Sean (Anna) and sister-in-law’s Helen and Floey. Her many nieces and nephews and friends from abroad will keep their memories close. An abundance of friends in Sudbury and across the miles, will never forget the cups of tea with home-made scones, scrabble games and fun times they had together.
Born in Ireland to Thomas and Mary Ryan, Edie was the only daughter with six brothers. Growing up on the farm was where she became a strong, resilient woman with a goal of becoming a nurse. She made the move to Canada and settled in Sudbury, Ontario where she fell in love with her best friend Jim, they married, and enjoyed 56 loving years of marriage. Together they travelled across Canada and returned to Ireland every couple of years to spend time with family. She made many friends while working at the Sudbury General Hospital and found she had much in common with members of the Irish Heritage Club of Sudbury. Her strong Catholic beliefs never wavered and devout membership with St. Patrick’s Church, and the Catholic Women’s League recently recognized her 60 years of service. Edie will also be remembered as an advocate for Organ Donor Awareness and was proud to be part of the committee who brought awareness to the people in Sudbury.
Her memorial mass will be held on July 20th,10:30a.m., at St. Patrick’s Parish in Sudbury and interment in the Civic Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Inner-City Home of Sudbury are appreciated. For donations or messages of condolence, please visit www.lougheedfuneralhomes.com
