With deep sadness, we announce the passing of our mother, Barbara Ann Runciman on October 4, 2024, at Health Sciences North, at the age of 89. Beloved wife of 64 years to Justice Robert Runciman. Mom is survived by her children, Leigh, Craig (Lynn), Neil (Preeti), and Kirk (Claudia). She was the dear daughter of Edward and Mae Arthur both predeceased. Barb is predeceased by her brother Richard (Dick) Arthur.
Barb will be sadly missed by her eight grandchildren: Chris, Sarah, Ben, Emily, Jeff, Adam, Alex, and Madison.
She will also be missed by her dear cousin Midge McKelvie, who saw Barb as her “big sister”.
A life-long resident of Sudbury, Barb attended Sudbury High followed by North Bay Teachers’ College. She began her teaching career in Sudbury in 1956, teaching primary grades. Upon the birth of Barb and Bob’s first child, Barb retired from teaching and focussed on raising the family.
Barb was so proud of her grandchildren. She loved to attend their events as they grew up whether it was hockey, basketball, soccer, synchronized swimming, fastball, dance, volleyball, and a host of the grandchildren’s interests. Barb was a proud and avid follower of her grandchildren’s education and their careers. She was always excited to receive updates regarding their achievements and professional responsibilities.
Mom enjoyed her reunions with Glenys, Dolores, and Janet at Glenys’ cottage in the Muskoka’s. The three were high school friends and boarded together while students in North Bay.
The Family would like to thank Extendicare York for the care provided to Barb during her stay. We would also like to thank Jennifer Dawson (NP) for the years of care she provided to Mom.
Visitation will be held at the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home 233 Larch Street, Sudbury on Thursday, October 10, 2024, from 10am-12noon and 4pm-6pm. Cremation with interment at the Park Lawn Cemetery.
